We spend approximately $40 per week in fruits alone and I noticed that the apple basket was untouched (approx 2 big bags from Sam's) for almost a week now. Hmmm....I need to cut on the sweet stuff as obviously, they were snacking on cakes. Anyway, I told the teens that we are not buying any fruits until they finish the apples.
Okay -- maybe it's a wrong move - -as I can hear knives banging on the chopping boards - -uh oh -- they are making APPLE PIE? ...at 7:30 pm??? Okay..I better intervene as I need to control the sugar in this house.
For now, here's a simple soup that you can easily create using left over pasta
Mario B's version: page 124
Maria B's version:
This soup reminds me of minestrone but think about pasta and beans . So easy, just simply saute onion and ham, add the tomoto paste, beans, pasta and chicken stock, simmer and you're good to go. The recipe requires pork fatback (softened and mashed into paste) - -Not sure what it is --so I used bacon instead.
1/2 cup bacon/ham
4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1 onion, diced
1/2 cup tomato sauce
1 can kidney beans (rinsed, drained)
2 cups left over pasta
salt and pepperHERE'S HOW:

great looking soup:) I love the slide show of all cooking steps. Thanks for sharing:)

Great blog! I've been in the mood for soup lately especially tonight, because it's so dang cold outside. I love how you show your step-by-step instructions. I've always been a visual learner, so this definitely helps! Love the little Mario B. doll - too cute! Keep up the great work!

Tomorrow is December already! Can you believe it? In Japanese, December is called “SHIWASU,” which means "monks running around." This word aptly describes the busiest month of the year in Japan. Why is December so busy?
